Weening myself off the big web

I've been looking into other options to try and ween myself off the socials and be much more intentional about what I ingest online. In doing so I learned about Mastodona nd Lemmy. I'm still trying to get my bearings as it is definitely a different vibe than Reddit, but I don't think that is a bad thing. All the things I have read so far are most devoid of the bot traffic, the useless responses, and seem quite intentional. Granted, I have only browsed a few communities.

Some of the hashtags I am following are #selfhosting, #smolweb, #linux, #FOSS, #fediverse, #indieweb, #geminiprotocol, #aiethics, #philosophy, and #history

I have accounts right now on Mastodon and Lemmy. Lemmy seems to be the more "easy" to follow is is kind of Reddit-like. Mastodon i'm struggling with a bit but I think I will fiond my way.

I am really trying to move away totally from Reddit and Facebook (other than my music life which , unfortunately, almost absolutely requires a FB presence). I have already given up X, and Instagram and barely used BlueSky, I am also going to trry and curate what I read and started using a RSS bridge to create curated lists of feeds so that I can review without all the noise. I also discovered a free paywall bypass (removepaywalls.com) and makes reading articles without providing any information, which is nice.

I also want to link on this site (which is mirroed on my Gemini and Gopher pages) things I find that I find interesting on the small web and think maybe others would like. I think that is a big deal and hope other small web folks do the same.

I'm really going to try and stay on top op this site. I may even move some of my regular Gemini sites here as well. We'll see.
